1st Cycladic Kids Festival

Can you name a more iconic ancient Greek artefact than the Cycladic statues? Cycladic figures have been the source of inspiration for young and old and are still wildly popular even as modern-day mementos from the Museum of Cycladic Art. For the last ten years, the MCA has been organising its very own children art contest and this year they’re taking the next step and are throwing a whole festival dedicated to art made by kids. The 1st Cycladic Kids Festival takes place at the City of Athens Art Centre inside Eleftherias Park, a 10-minute walk from the museum. The programme is aimed at children and teens aged 4 to 15 and includes several family-friendly fun activities. Expect a whimsical bubble parade, screen printing workshops, face painting, film screenings, a magical paper puppet performance based on the myth of Daedalus and Icarus, book readings by actors and writers (including best-selling author and Grecophille Victoria Hislop), and a giant collaborative project organised by Illustradays, Athens’ Illustration Festival. And of course, all the young artists’ art is going to be on display on the walls of the Athens Art Centre. This year’s theme was “The human being at the centre'' and young artists were called to give a colourful makeover to the minimalistic statuettes, some of which you can already check online.
